Service Modality: Moxibustion

Otherwise called “moxa”, is a traditional heat therapy utilizing the processed leaves of the herb Artemisia Vulgaris. This is burned above specific acupuncture points. Acupuncture and Moxibustion are often practiced in conjunction.

This treatment therapy is particularly effective when treating weakness conditions as well as conditions where the body feels cold or tired. Modern research has shown that moxa treatment can enhance vitality, such as in raising white blood cell counts in severely debilitated patients.

In our office we use two forms of moxa. Smokeless moxa cones are used atop of needles, or loose moxa can be rolled into small pellets to use over salt or ginger.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient style of medicine that has been practiced for over 2000 years and is proven to be safe and effective when performed by a skilled professional. It is used to treat the root of your symptoms and bring the body into balance in a natural way. TCM practitioners use herbal medicines and various mind and body practices, such as acupuncture and Tai Chi, to treat or prevent health problems. In the United States, people use TCM primarily as a complementary health approach. TCM encompasses many different practices, including acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion (burning an herb above the skin to apply heat to acupuncture points), Chinese herbal medicine, tui na (Chinese therapeutic massage), dietary therapy, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong (practices that combine specific movements or postures, coordinated breathing, and mental focus).
